Amazon Rainforest Region

The recognition of the vegetation cover makes it possible to establish this region as a continuum of Amazon rainforest or tropical rainforest, covering the largest forest area on the planet with an approximate area of 7,989,004 Km2. The rainforest in its delimitation overflows the Amazon basin surpassing it in about 637,000 Km2 approximately. The territories of Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana do not belong to the Amazon basin, but they have forest cover (Dominguez, 1987). By removing from this region the types of vegetation other than forest - mainly crops and pastures - and bare soils or hard lands, the extension of forest cover would be about 6,885,800 Km2.
