SIAT-AC is a process in which a set of actors (institutions) establish agreements, with common objectives about environmental information management of the Colombian Amazon (agreements: conceptual, organizational, technical (data infrastructure, methodologies, protocols), and technological (information networks, telecommunications, access), organized as a network of people and entities, to support with data and information products the decision makers in regional processes to achieve sustainable development.
The Support Unit Information and Outreach Center was established from the formulation of the Strategic Plan 2003-2017 for the purpose of administering and managing the bibliographic, scientific, archival and outreach information produced or received at the SINCHI Institute in the development of its missionary objective or by the actions to support it.
The Information and Dissemination Center is in charge of the Documentation Centers of the regional offices, the Mitu branch and the liaison office, from which it provides services to researchers and citizens, aimed at facilitating access to bibliographic information about the region Amazon.
The Experimental Station "El Trueno", as part of the San Jose del Guaviare headquarters of the Amazonian Scientific Research Institute SINCHI, is located in the village of El Trueno in El Retorno municipality, in the department of Guaviare. The Institute develops a systematic process with more than 25 years in the identification, characterization and monitoring of 30 forest and fruit species, mainly Amazonian, to prioritize species that have entered regional programs on farms of small agri-environmental producers. In addition, studies are carried out on the composition, structure and function of the forest intervened for the valuation of ecosystem goods and services, which it provides as a component of productive landscapes.
The station is a Research Center for the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity in the Colombian Amazon and has the capacity of research and training the regional community, in forest management and development of sustainable productive alternatives.
The Research Program "Socio-environmental Dynamics in the Colombian Amazon" puts at the service of its users a database on social aspects for the region called Inírida.
Inirida is the best denomination for the purposes pursued by the program: to determine the multiple relationships that exist between the natural and social environment that is being constructed in the Colombian Amazon. Inirida is a princess, a flower, a river, a city.
Biological collections are documents that support scientific research and serve as a basis to understand, conserve and sustainably use the natural basis of the country.
The knowledge and conservation of the biological diversity of the Colombian Amazon has an immense value for the development of the region and the country. This proposal presents the collections of the SINCHI Institute, through which it seeks to raise awareness of the importance and diversity of plants, fish and reptiles in the Amazon region.
The biological collections of COAH (Colombian Amazonian Herbarium) and CIACOL (Ichthyology Collection of the Colombian Amazon) are the product of different research processes and follow processing, curation and access standards that allow to keep the specimens in good condition and available for consultation following the protocols of use.
